Tough set.  I’m pretty weak right now. I’m pretty excited for school to finish soon.  I’ll definitely be putting in more time then. I also plan to start some squatting and deadlifting to develop some more strength.

Long Cycle 22kg x 2 – 1 min / 6 rpm x 10 sets (1 min rest between sets) 60 reps total

Still feeling pretty weak, but a few more sessions like this should get me back on track.  Even though I felt weak, this workout was pretty easy.  I just starting losing my form as my arms got tired.  I finished up with a 20 rep chin up set.

Long Cycle 20kg x 2 – 5 min / 8 rpm 40 reps

This was a fairly difficult set.  My cardio has disappeared, and my body is pretty weak.  With that being said, I haven’t lost all of it.  I finished with some strength left in the tank.  The form was a bit sloppy, so I need to focus on that as I get back into the swing of things.  It’s starting to get too cold outside to go for a run (the cold screws up my lungs… asthma), but my wife got a membership to a gym nearby.  I’m going to try and get out there at least twice a week for some cardio (running/rowing). Only one more month before this semester is over and I can focus on my health again.  Until then, I’ll do the best I can.

School has absolutely ruined me this semester.  I have been putting in 18-24 hour days for weeks now.  I haven’t been sleeping, have been eating like shit, and have gotten sick a couple of times in the last month and a half.  Things are starting to slow down a touch, and I am jonesing to start lifting again. I did sign up for a bouldering class next semester, so I’ve just started climbing as well to get back my climbing strength.  I’ll be juggling climbing and kettlebells until next summer.  I’m not sure how that’s going to work out, but we’ll see. I got my first kettlebell set in today in quite a long time.  I’m hopefully going to be able to do at least 2 good sets a week for the remainder of the semester.  That’s the goal anyway…

These felt super easy.  I was breathing a little bit at the end, but was nowhere near exhaustion. Next week I will probably play with the 20’s, and slowly work my way back up to the 24’s and beyond.

This past week has been absolutely brutal for me.  With all the school work I’ve had due (papers and such), I’ve barely slept at all, and even went one night with zero sleep.  It is definitely taking a toll on my body.  I tried doing a 10 minute set this weekend to coincide with the World Cup, but that was the day after no sleep.  It just wasn’t happening.  The next day I tried again, and had the worst workout I’ve had in months.  Today was awful as well.  I just feel completely burned out.  I think I’m going to take a couple of weeks and just do some light cardio, a few light kettlebell sets, and probably some climbing.  I need to get some rest and recuperate.

Well, Vegas is not going to happen for me this year.  I have fallen too far behind in school and am going to be unable to take any time off.  Even if school was not in the picture, it wouldn’t happen.  With the limited funds I have, and with Cat Stevens’ recent announcement of a US tour, I’ve decided to use that money for my wife to realize her dream of seeing Yusuf live in concert.  This is probably the only chance she’ll get to see him, and there will be plenty of other kettlebell tournaments for me in the future.  So what now?  I’m going to keep chugging along, and getting in as much work as I can while staying healthy.  I’m setting my next goal at 60 reps long cycle with 24kgx2, then working with the 26kg bells.  I think I’m probably capable of hitting 50 reps right now.  I’ll probably do a 10 min set in conjunction with the World Cup.  If I can’t be there in person, at least I can be there in spirit.

My back was pretty sore today, so I didn’t do a real workout.  After doing school work all day, I ended up doing some one arm jerks with 24kg-40kg, followed by some two arm jerks with 26kgx2.  Hopefully a nice massage tonight will ease the pain in my back a bit.

I had a pretty rough day at school today.  I had the hardest time keeping my eyes open.  I was just super tired all day.  This set went okay, but my low energy definitely held me back.  Legs felt weak again today.  My lungs were also pretty bad.  I felt like I wasn’t getting any air.

Long Cycle 24kg x 2 – 3 min / 6 rpm 18 reps (~5 min rest)

This set was a mental workout for me.  I really wanted to quit at 2 minutes in.  My form was fine though.  I just had to push on through the mental weakness.

Running –  5.01 km / 26 min 43 sec (5:20 m/k)

I wasn’t worried about my pacing here.  I just wanted to put the time in and get my lungs working again.  This was a very enjoyable run.

I’m not entirely sure if Vegas is going to happen for me.  I have been falling behind in school, and that is not an option this semester, as I have to teach a few classes, as well as the ones I’m taking.  I’ve been working from 8am-midnight every day, and am still falling behind.  The thought of taking 2 days off scares the hell out of me.  As much as I want to make this trip, family comes first, and that means that school comes first.  I’m working as hard as I can to be able to take these 2 days off. I guess I’ll know in a few days.

Long Cycle 28kg x 2 – 5 min / (4,4,2,4,4) 18 reps (2 min rest)

I screwed up the third minute.  I was supposed to go 3 reps, but I messed up my timing.  This is the pace I need to go at in order to make CMS (4,4,3,4,4,3,4,4,3,4 will get me exactly the number I need).   This was a pretty poor workout though.  I felt weak from the get go.  I could not keep my legs straight and relaxed at all, which wore them out way too fast.  My bump was really disappearing by the end.  I think on a good day, I can squeeze out anther minute or two, but that is still far from where I need to be for CMS.  Regardless, I felt way stronger with the 28’s than I did a few months ago.  My back also felt really good for this workout.  I did tons of warmup, and that helped a lot.
